Agnes Christina Neff, 87, of Lewistown, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Golden Living Center-William Penn, in Lewistown.
She was born August 19, 1920, at Centre Hall, a daughter of the late Homer L. and Dorothy E. Ruble Neff.
Ms. Neff is survived by three sisters, Mary E. Bender of Millheim, Frances A. Hassinger, and Sara Shank both of Lewistown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Neff, and a brother Charles Neff.
Agnes graduated from Centre Hall-Potter High School in 1938; and from Philipsburg State Hospital Nurses Training Program in 1943.
Ms. Neff served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps from 1945 to 1947 earning the rank of Second Lieutenant.
From 1943 to 1945 she worked for Goodyear Aircraft. Following her service time, she worked as nurse in the Urology Department for the University of Oklahoma from 1947 to1952. In 1952 she went to work as an orthopedic nurse in a physician's office in Oklahoma, working there until 1957. Moving from Oklahoma to California in1957, she began working in the operating room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Eureka, CA, and in 1965, was promoted to operating room supervisor, remaining in that position until 1974. In 1974, she moved back to Pennsylvania, and worked at Lewistown Hospital as a surgical secretary for the operation room, retiring in 1983.
Ms. Neff was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Tusseyville. She was a former long-time member of the American Operating Room Nurses Association.
Friends will be received from 10:30 a. m until 11:00 a. m. Friday, November 23, 2007, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a. m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
