Raub, Alice B. Alice Burkholder Raub May 17, 1913 -March 20, 2006 Alice B. Raub, 92, passed away Monday, March 20, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Facility in Las Cruces, N.M. She was born on May 17, 1913, in Potter Township, to the late Morris A. and Sara Bell Burkholder. She was a graduate of Centre Hall High School, and graduated as a registered nurse from the Methodist Episcopal Hospital Training School of Nursing in Philadelphia, in 1935. She then worked in Philadelphia as a visiting nurse for the Red Cross. In 1938, she married David S. Raub of Allentown. She was a loving wife and mother whose interests included gardening, archeology, and travel. Alice was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for more than 50 years, and she also volunteered with Hospice. She moved to Las Cruces in 1977 to be close to her children, and she joined the First Presbyterian Church. Alice was a strong and loyal friend, with many friendships lasting for more than 70 years. It is fitting that she passed on the first day of spring, as she loved to work in the soil and plant seeds and bulbs. She always looked forward eagerly to spring to see the budding of flowers, trees, and shrubs, and she loved to hear birds sing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, David; her first born; and her four siblings, Mary Ellen, Jim, Carl, and Mabel. She is survived by her three remaining children and their families, Sara B. Wing and daughter, Melissa, and husband, Pete Rose; David S. Raub, his wife, Pat, and their son, Wade and Carl, and Barbara "Bobbi" Raub and daughter, Meghan.She was the proud great-grandmother to Caleb and Jacob Rose. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred next to her husband David, in the Reformed and Lutehran Cemetery, West Chruch St., Centre Hall, PA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Monday June 19, at Grace United Methodist chruch 127 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, with the Rev. Dean Rupe officiating. In lieu of flowers, she had requested that remembrances be made to the American Red Cross, 121 1/2 E. Beaver Ave. State College, PA 16801; or to Mesilla Valley Hospice at 299 Montana Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88005.
