Alta Betty Meeker Martz Meyer, 88, of Tusseyville, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Fairways at Brookline Village in State College.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Burnside Township, a daughter of H. Harry and Lovina Force Meeker.
On May 28, 1938 in Milesburg, she married Paul Rossman Martz and accompanied him to Tussseyville to care for his parents. She remained there for over seventy years. Her first husband preceded her in death, January 22, 1957. In September of 1961 she married Charles W. Meyer who preceded her in death October 14, 1977.
In the early 1950's she began a career as a housekeeper and domestic worker for many families in State College and the surrounding area. She retired from Toftrees Country Club and Lodge as a housekeeper in 1983. She was an accomplished gardener, growing vegetables and fruit for sale in the local area. She enjoyed collecting antique furniture and china and took great pride in keeping a beautiful home. She became an avid reader of mystery novels and greatly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Tressler and her husband Stanley of State College and Anna McMullin-Loop and her husband William of Tusseyville; three grandchildren, Steven (Gina) Tresssler, Kim (Ashley) Dutrow, and Jeffrey L. McMullin; and three great grandchildren, Jeremy and Chelsa Dutrow and Bashier Tressler. She is also survived by a very special niece, Ernestine Yecina of Snow Shoe.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Reid, Harry, Leon, Paul and Floyd Meeker and three sisters, Carrie Lucas, Rene Craft and Helen Biddle. She was the last of her family.
Following her wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
