Alverta L. White, 90, of Pleasant Gap, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
She was born April 8, 1916 in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Alvie and Viola Sharer Fetters.
On October 31, 1949, she married George P. White who preceded her in death on December 8, 1989.
Mrs. White is survived by a daughter, Mary C. Watkins Zeigler of rural Bellefonte; a daughter in law, Janet Meckley of Centre Hall; three sisters, Susan J. Hockenberry of rural Osceola Mills, PA, Sarah J. Noller of Michigan, and Ruth Small of Baltimore; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son William S. Meckley who died July 7, 1997; a granddaughter, Cathy Watkins; three sisters, Christina, Bessie, and Marie and a brother Daniel.
Early in life Alverta, worked as a waitress in several restaurants and at Hanover Brands Cannery at Centre Hall for four years. She then worked at the Millheim Hosiery Mill and at Valley Manufacturing, in Millheim, retiring July 1, 1984, after 23 years of service.
She was a member of Women of the Moose in Bellfonte, and of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Pleasant Gap.
Friends will be received from 9 - 10 a. m. Friday, August, 25, 2006, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 10:00 a. m. at the church, with her grandson, the Reverend Rodney D. Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, W. Church St. Centre Hall, PA
