Alvin L. "Bud" Hoover, 73, of Madisonburg, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte.
He was born January 18, 1937 in Bellefonte, a son of the late J. Clair and Pauline Jodon Hoover.
On May 20, 1961 he married Diane M. Jurey who survives at home.
Bud graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1955, and served in the U. S. Army Reserves earning the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged January 31, 1966.
A person of varied talent and interests, early in life he worked for State Gas and Oil Company and later for Nittany Oil Company both in State College. He served as the maintenance director for Krislund Camp and Conference Center near Madisonburg, and worked as a sales person for MacIntyre Auto Group in Lock Haven. He retired as a sales person for Miller Motors in Centre Hall.
Mr. Hoover attended Madisonburg United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Harris Township Fish and Game Association, and the Millheim Lions Club. He was a N. A. S. C. A. R. enthusiast, enjoyed meeting with the coffee club at Rebersburg, and spent a great deal of time assisting his Amish friends with transportation. He had an interest in and enjoyed restoring horse drawn buggies and sleighs. Spending six months in his Zephyrhills, Florida home was something he looked forward to, but coming back to his favorite town of Madisonburg each spring was also a delight to him, and he especially enjoyed spending time at a cabin on Madisonburg Mountain. Bud loved traveling and was always ready to use his road atlas and travel to unknown destinations.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by a daughter Lynne M. Mance and her husband Mark of rural Bellefonte, a son Brian L. Hoover and his wife Michelle of Madisonburg, and their son Justin Bonnett; one sister Phyllis Solley and her husband Paul of Tusseyville.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Madisonburg United Methodist Church with the Reverend Julia Piper officiating. Friends will be received in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the memorial service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in the Central West Cemetery in Madisonburg.
