Ann Clewett Wettstone, age 90, of State College, died April 20, 2015 at Foxdale Village.

Born Vera Ann Schuemacher, November 18, 1924, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clyde J. and Betsey Williams Schuemacher.

Ann grew up in Youngstown where her father was an architect for the Isaly Dairy Company. Her love of ice cream started then and there. She graduated from South High in Youngstown and entered the University of Michigan in 1942, intending to study Communications. When she realized the program primarily groomed students for careers in radio and television, she changed her plans. The Dean of Education suggested she take a course entitled "The Mental Hygiene of Childhood and Adolescence", and she felt as if the door to her future had opened before her. She completed her degree in Education and entered the Masters Degree program in Child Development 2 years later. She was offered a teaching position at the University Nursery School and completed her graduate degree 2 courses at a time. During her time at the U of M, Ann was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and became a house mother and mentor for younger members.

In August of 1954, she met Robert Clewett, a Doctoral student in Marketing. They were engaged at Thanksgiving and married June 10, 1955 at the Ann Arbor Presbyterian Church.

After one year in Philadelphia, Bob and Ann moved to State College in 1959 where Bob taught in the College of Business, retiring in 1976. Ann taught at the University Nursery School and later in the Department of Continuing Education. In later years, she traveled to small towns throughout Pennsylvania mentoring and credentialing day care center teachers through NAEYC. She discovered little known communities such as Grass Flat and Gas Center. She followed that with a 10 year career in real estate and then retired.

Bob and Ann moved to the Foxdale Village in 1990. After Bob passed in 1997, Ann began ballroom dancing at Foxdale. She and instructor Gene Wettstone did so well together, they married on Valentine's Day, 2007. Their time together was highlighted by wonderful travels, shared families and beautiful dancing. Gene passed in 2013.

Ann was a longtime member of Diakonia Presbyterian Church. For the last 10 years, she worshipped at the University Mennonite Church. She was a former President of the Board of the Easter Seals Society and the Foxdale Residents Association. She remained active in Alpha Phi at PSU and attended functions for many years.

Ann was preceded in death by Bob, Gene, her brother Richard Schuemacher, and her niece Cindy Amidon. She is survived by her sons Lance Clewett (Kathy) of Carlisle, Doug Clewett (Hugo) of Pittsburgh, sister-in-law, Viviana Schuemacher of Pittsburgh, stepsons Jerry Wettstone (Jane) of State College and Dick (Lois) of Harrisonburg, Virginia, step daughters Janet Gardner (David) of Dunbar, West Virginia and Laurie Humphreysville (John) of Naples, Florida as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yahweh says "Act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God." Ann will be remembered for her uncanny ability to listen, respect, and love.

A memorial service will be held at Foxdale Village on Sat. June 6, 2015 at 1:30 pm.
