ARLENE CAROLYN ULRICH SAUERWEIN Date: January 26, 2007 Arlene was born February 20, 1919 in Audubon, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Harvey Edward Ulrich and Carrie Kern Ulrich and had two brothers who preceded her in death: Harvey Edward Ulrich, Jr. and Kern Alfred Ulrich. Arlene married Frederick John Sauerwein on October 19, 1939, who died July 25, 1981 ... and Lewis Edward Sauerwein II on November 17, 1984, who died February 20, 1989. Arlene grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey and has always been active in her Church, Sunday School, and Christian Women's Club. She had two sons from her first marriage: J. Roderick, who died in 1998, and Russell L. who is a retired pastor and lives with his wife Dorothy in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania. Arlene was an avid reader and in her later years had an extensive "lending library" of Christian books and Bible study resources, which she loved to share with others. Besides her two sons, she had three step-children, Betsy Black of Lancaster and Lewis E. Sauerwein of Lebanon, both in Pennsylvania, and Sandy Nebel of LaJolla, California. She had 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren. Arlene spent her last years in Brookline Nursing Home, and the last months in The Fairways at Brookline. She went to be with the Lord on January 26,2007, in her bed at The Fairways. Her family is thankful for God's gift of her life and her quiet journey into glory. A memorial service will be held at S1. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 North Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 11 :00 AM, with The Rev. Gregory R. Pile, Bishop of the Allegheny Synod of the ELCA presiding.
