Obituary

Arlene M. Spayd, 84, a resident of Valley View Retirement Community and formerly of Centre Hall, PA, went to be with the Lord at Valley View Haven on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Born May 8, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Philip and Gertrude Swatsworth of Philipsburg, PA. On April 20, 1945, she married Dean A. Spayd. Her loving spouse of 63 years survives in Centre Hall. She is survived by four children, Donald P. Spayd and his wife, Linda of Cortland, OH, Kenneth A. Spayd of Oakland, CA, Janet M. Mason and her husband, Rick, of Youngstown, OH, and Linda M. Fetzer and her husband, Eric, of Centre Hall. She is also survived by one sister, Vera Jewart of Chicago, IL. She is survived by five grandchildren, Mandi Spayd, Jonathan Mason, Matthew Mason, Andrew Mason, and Austin Fetzer. She was a 1942 graduate of State College Area High School. Arlene worked on the draft board for World War II, was a homemaker for many years, and had her own craft business where she specialized in cornhusk crafts. Arlene was a member of Family Life of Penns Valley Church in Spring Mills. Friends will be received at State College Assembly of God Church, 2201 University Drive Extension, State College, PA on Sunday, February 1, 2009, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM and Monday, February 2, 2009 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at State College Assembly of God Church on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend K.R. Mele and Reverend Henry Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in Farmers Mills Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Life of Penns Valley, 3596 Penns Valley Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
