Audrey Mae Warnets Phelps, 73, of Houserville Road, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at 7:15 a. m. at Outlook Pointe in State College.
She was born May 27, 1933, in Penns Creek, a daughter of the late Kirby and Alice Walter Warnets.
She was married to Charles Johnstonbaugh who preceded her in death. On March 15, 1980, she married Ben G. Phelps Jr., who survives in State College.
Audrey graduated from Middleburg High School in 1950. In May of 1954 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education at Susquehanna University.
Early in life she worked in Pennsylvania State government offices in Harrisburg. She was employed as an executive secretary in the College of Agriculture at Penn State University for many years.
She attended Nittany Bible Church near Pennsylvania Furnace where she served as a pianist for the church.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over twenty five years, and a member of the State College Christian Church, where she served as a choral director and was a gifted and accomplished pianist and organist. She was invited to play at numerous social events and at local nursing homes, and served as a volunteer at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, where she was awarded a certificate of appreciation for outstanding voluntary service.
As an accomplished musician, she enjoyed listening to Christian music and enjoyed reading, knitting, and loved to send Christmas cards. She was known for her warm and vibrant personality, and she loved meeting people.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Phelps is survived by three step children; Barry Phelps and his wife Lynnie, of State College; Terry Phelps and his wife June, of Charlotte NC, and Holly Packard and her husband Scott, of State College; five cousins, Phyllis Burns and her husband William, of Middleburg, Harold Kratzer and his wife Connie, of Paxtonville, Violet Klinger and her husband Chandis. of Middleburg, Mary Peters and her husband Richard, of Maryland; Jean Ott and her husband Roger, of Maryland; and seven step grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will be at 11:00 a. m. Monday, June 19, at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy McGill and the Rev. James R. Schomer officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
