Aurora Chelednik died at home with her daughter and family Tuesday morning in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania. Aurora was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, but spent most of her life in New York City. She worked for the City of New York, Department of Probation in Family Court until she was 70 years old. Although she started out as a Transcribing Typist, she worked her way up to Office Manager where she oversaw the work of a large group of typists. She found humor and pride in the fact that she had corrected grammar and spelling of native English speakers since English was her second language. After her first stroke, her family brought her to live with them in Portage, Pennsylvania where Aurora made numerous wonderful friends at the Portage Senior Center. She was most proud of their trips to Nursing Homes in the area where they sang old songs and made new friends. Due to poor health, Aurora was not as active after she moved into the Centre County community as she would have liked. Although her independent streak prevailed and she did manage to move in to an apartment at The Brockerhoff for a short period of time before her return to live with her family. Many more wonderful friends were made at that time. Singing and dancing were always a large part of Aurora's life even up until the end when only a few steps were taken- they were often danced!Preceded in death by her son Alvin John Chelednik in 1992. Survived by daughter Rorie, son-in-law Robert Blackburn, and two adoring grandsons Stefan Mielnik of Pittsburgh and Samuel Mielnik currently studying abroad in Italy. Aurora was a major force in her two grandchildren's lives. Luckily, love and laughter were given to Aurora Chelednik daily, not only from her immediate family but also by her extended family in the numerous "angels" from the Home Nursing Agency Hospice. Memorial Service will be at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church 134 E. Bishop St. Bellefonte, Pa on Tuesday February 24th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Home Nursing Agency at 205 Park Place, Bellefonte, Pa 16823.
