Barbara H. Tobias' Obituary
Barbara H. Tobias, 70, of rural Spring Mills, died peacefully at the Fairways of Brookline Village at State College.
She was born March 16, 1942, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Ralph S. and Alma G. Zerby Hagan.
On June 12, 1965 she married Dr. Duane E. "Toby" Tobias who survives at home.
Barbara graduated from Penns Valley Area High School in 1960. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lock Haven University in 1964.
Her teaching career began in the Williamsport School District; and for several years she taught at the Bellefonte Elementary School. Later in life she taught at the Grace United Methodist Church Play School in Centre Hall. Mrs. Tobias also served as a substitute mail carrier in the Spring Mills area.
An active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Mills, she served as a Sunday School teacher, served on the church council, had been an active member of the church choir. Mrs. Tobias was a member of the East Penns Valley Woman's Club.
Among the things she enjoyed most were painting, sewing, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, Lady Lion Basketball, tenting at Grange Fair, and traveling.
Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter, Corinne R. Tobias of Harrisburg; two sons, Scott E. Tobias and his wife Christine, along with their sons, Tanner, William and Jesse Tobias of Westminster, MD; and Martin A. Tobias and his wife Laura, along with their sons Cameron, Andrew, Matthew and Aaron Tobias of Centre Hall; one sister, Dorothy H. Munnell and her husband Roger of Bellefonte; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tobias was preceded in death by two sisters, Miriam R. and Nancy L. Fultz
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall; and from 10-11 Monday July 30, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Mills. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a. m. at the church with the Reverend Nathan Pile officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Union Cemetery in Farmers Mills.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 296 Ridge Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
