Beatrix C. "Trixie" Knight, nee Kinkaid - 88 (23 April, 1921 - 5 May, 2009) Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother
After struggling with Alzheimer's for many months, Trixie succumbed to pneumonia on Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2009 at The Atrium at Penn State, State College, PA.
Trixie was born on 23 April, 1921 in Brooklyn NY of John and Beatrix Kinkaid. She is survived by her sister, Muriel Smith, three sons, Paul G and his wife Mary, John A. and his wife Sarah, and Frank C. and his wife Lucia and by five grandchildren, Susan, Lauren, Joseph, Catherine and Joanna. In addition she is survived by her sister-in-law Karolyn and her brother-in-law, Stephen B. and his wife Charlotte. Her husband, Frank, of nearly 64 years, predeceased her in January, 2008.
Following graduation from James Madison High School in 1940, Trixie worked at the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and later the Armor Corporation prior to meeting her husband.
Throughout her life, Trixie gave of her time and talents generously in the service of her church community and to those in need of spiritual guidance. She served as president of the Rosary Altar Society, as well as the Mother's Guild at St Pascal Baylon Church in Hollis, NY. For over twenty years, she and her husband worked to introduce the Marriage Encounter, and later the Engaged Encounter retreats throughout the U.S. and Europe. Later, after retirement, they were members of Lamp Ministries, an outreach program of the Brooklyn, New York and Jersey City Dioceses, serving as lay ministers in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
Friends will be received from 10:00 to 10:30 a. m. Saturday, May 9, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 10:30 a. m. at the funeral home with Monsignor Lockard officiating. Entombment will be at Centre County Memorial Park 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633.
