Obituary

Bernice H. John, 97, of Bellefonte, formally of Lemont, died Wednesday, July 19,2006 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
She was born on December 14,1908 in Chicago,IL to the late Newton Franklin and Mabel Minor Pifer.
On June 14,1931 she married Macklin E. John who preceded her in death on November 21,1983.
She was a graduate of Ft. Dodge High School and attended Junior College in Ft. Dodge and at Iowa State College.
She was employed at University Travel for two years. She also established Penn State Travel where she was a manager for twelve years. She then became a co-owner of Centre for Travel in 1971 and then retiring in 1975 due to the illness of her husband.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Faculty Woman's Club, the Lemont Woman's Club, and the Nittany Button Club. She was very active in the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by a son, Bruce M. John of Ithaca, NY; a daughter, Marilyn E. Henninger of State College; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and three gr-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Robert N. John.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 13,2006 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist, 109 McAllister St., State College, PA 16801. Burial will be at the Pine Hall Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the M.E. John Memorial Lectureship Series, Office of University Development, Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802.
