Obituary

Bettie R. Sims, age 84, of State College, PA died Saturday, April 8th at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born January 18, 1922 in Pittsburgh to Charlton and Edna Richards.
In addition to being an exceptional homemaker and hostess, Bettie donated many hours as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, volunteer with Down Syndrome children in Pittsburgh, cook for a church youth group, and secretary to the Leukemia Society of Northern Ohio.
She was a member of the Shaker Heights Country CLub in Cleveland, Ohio, Indian Lake Golf Club of Somerset County, and Eastern Star in Pittsburgh. Bettie was a great dancer and an avid bridge player. Bettie played bridge until the day before entering the hospital.
Her passion was her family and grandchildren. Bettie is survived by her husband of 59 years, William L. Sims, son Richard and his wife, Norrine of Stormstown, daughter Karen and her husband William Franke of North Conway, NH, and grandchildren Megan Franke of Cambridge, MA, M.K. Ruth Franke of North Conway, NH, Ryan Sims of Washington, D.C., and Kevin Sims of New York, NY.
A memorial service at State College Presbyterian Church will be held on Saturday, April 15th at 1:00 pm.Arrangements are by Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P. O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
