Obituary

Betty L. Sweeney, 75, of Pleasant Gap, died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
She was born January 10, 1933, at Mt. Union, a daughter of the late Sherman K. and Gladys Parsons Morrow.
She married William Sweeney on July 18, 1954, who survives at home.
Betty was a graduate of Captain Jack High School in Mt. Union and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.
Through her nursing career, she did private duty nursing in Georgia and later in State College. She worked as a Medical-Surgical Nurse at the former Bellefonte Hospital, and worked at Centre Crest Nursing Home for thirteen years. In 1967 while working with the Red Cross, she was awarded an Enrollment Badge.
Mrs. Sweeney was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Order of the Amaranth. She enjoyed tenting at Grange Fair for the past forty-eight years.
Earlier in Life she was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Bellefonte, joining in 1967. In 1968 she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Bellefonte Council of Churches, for her work with Vacation Bible School. In more recent years she attended Bellefonte and State College Christian Missionary Alliance Churches.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by four daughters, Brenda Kay Hess and her Husband Stan of Coudersport, Sharon Sue Trick Immel and her husband Chris of New Cumberland, Vickie Lea Breon and her husband Steven of Aaronsburg, and Betsey Ann Witherow and her husband Daniel of New Millport; one son Dennis W. Sweeney of Long Beach, MS; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Hess, Olivia Hess Retallack, Travis Trick, Jeremy Breon, Caitlin and Shelby Sweeney, Mikayla B. and Matthew P. Ebeling and Zachary R. Witherow; three great grandchildren, Joplin, Sitara and Arrow Hess; and one sister, Gloria F. Sellers of Marietta GA.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a. m. to 12:30 p. m. Friday, December 19, 2008, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will follow at 12:30 p. m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend George Burn officiating. A Graveside service and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Zion Cemetery, Zion.
