Carol Ann Wasson, 68, of Pine Grove Mills, died Sunday, October 3, 2010, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born March 2, 1942, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Matthew and Eleanor Weaver Hayes.
In January of 1965, she married Lynn A. Wasson who survives at home.
Carol graduated from State College Area High School in 1960 where she played drums in the high school band, fostering a lifelong love and appreciation for music.
During high school Carol started working part time at the Pattee Library at the Pennsylvania State University, earning her recognition chair after twenty five years, and continuing her employment until she retired as a supervisor of the reserved reading room at Pattee Library, after thirty eight years of service.
Mrs. Wasson was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in State College for fifty five plus years. She was a member of the Life After Loss Group, the GOALS group, and was active in United Methodist Women. Always concerned about the well being of others, she went on a church sponsored mission trip to Nicaragua. The group provided medical treatment, christian and social outreach while there. She was a member of the State College Woman's Club, serving as a trustee.
Traveling was one of the things she enjoyed most, having had the privilege of traveling to Italy, Korea and Peru. Working with flowers, spending time with her beloved cat Tandy, as well as volunteering, helping with meals, and caring for and about people were among the things she cherished most in life.
In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by a daughter Lynnee Kimberly Wasson Williams of York; one son Jason Matthew Wasson of Pine Grove Mills; one granddaughter Lydia Diana Williams of York; one sister Deanna Hayes Nardozzo of State College and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 5 - 8 p. m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA and from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the funeral home. The funeral will follow immediately at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Doctor Ed Zeiders officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hall Cemetery, State College.
