Time stood still at dawn on Monday, September 3, 2007, when Caroline Josephine Olsen shed her mortal form and her spirit soared into the heavens.
Born on July 14, 1910 in Aurora, Illinois, Caroline was the daughter of Josephine and Charles Ernst. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Harold Olsen, as well as her companion of 24 years, John Mourant. Caroline had four children and is survived by three: Richard; Ken and his wife Susan; and Martin and his wife Linda. Her youngest daughter, Linda, is deceased. She also has 5 living grandchildren and 5 living great-grandchildren.
Caroline Olsen will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving, dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. It was a joy for her to make time to sit and visit with others, remember countless birthdays each year by sending special cards, personal notes, and gifts, and to cook delicious meals for her family and friends. She was an open-minded, intelligent, and lively conversationalist who easily won the hearts, admiration, and love of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Some of her interests included playing a wide variety of music, including classical and favorite hymns on her childhood piano, reading the newspaper, mystery and romance novels, and the Bible. She lived and demonstrated her faith and devotion to the teachings of Jesus Christ in how she accepted and loved everyone. At age 97, Caroline was the oldest active member of the congregation at Grace Lutheran Church.
Although she lived a simple life, it was noble and influential. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered with tremendous love and gratitude for the life she shared with so many.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services P.C., 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 205 South Garner Street, State College on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. All are invited to attend a fellowship dinner following the service.
