Ammerman
May 14, 1927 – April 26, 2023
Charles R. Ammerman, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was born in Bellefonte, on May 14,1927, and was the son of the late George Raymond and Ruth Shultz Ammerman. On January 5, 1946, he married Rachel M. Naylor who preceded him in death after 44 years. On January 18, 1992, he married Ruby F. Noll who preceded him in death after 17 years.
Charlie was a 1945 graduate of Bellefonte High School, a high school basketball player, Boy Scout, and Navy Veteran. Charlie was a Seaman 2/c in the United States Navy. He entered the Navy in June 1945 and received his recruit training at Sampson, NY. Charlie was stationed at Report, RI and then reported to Boston, Mass where he served on the U.S.S. Oregon City until July 1946. Following the Navy, he was employed by West Penn Power as a surveyor, linesman and promoted over the years to his final position as Operations Superintendent.
Charlie was a member of the Bellefonte Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1094. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, square dancing and reading. A former member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church and in recent years he attended the Grace United Church of Christ in Spring Mills.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Pamela Wasserman and her husband, David of Sugar Land, TX, 2 stepdaughters, Terry Noll of State College; Jackie Chandler and her husband Rick of Indianapolis, IN, 7 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren. His brother, Donald R. Ammerman, preceded him in death in 2021.
Family and friends will be received from 12:30PM – 1:30PM for visitation at the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S. Main Street, Pleasant Gap, PA 16823 on Friday, May 5, 2023, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30PM officiated by Reverend Jackie Chandler. Private inurnment will take place at the St. Mark Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 313, Spring Mills, PA 16875 and/or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Charles Ammerman. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences left for the family at www.hakygeorgianafh.com
