Charles L. "Chuck" Greninger, 95, of Bellefonte died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Centre Crest.

Born January 21, 1920 in Kaneville, IL, he was a son of the late Michael L. and Kathryn Bailey Greninger. He moved to Pennsylvania at the age of one and lived with grandparents and other relatives of the Bailey family. He attended thirteen different schools before graduating from the Walker Township School in Hublersburg in 1938. After gradation he worked on Russell Stover's farm until 1939, and then for Stellard Beightol, delivering coal in the Pleasant Gap area. In 1940 he was employed by Markles' Dairy in Pleasant Gap, later Pleasant Gap Milk Co for eighteen years.

Chuck was a WWII army veteran serving three years in the army, "The Timberwolf Division, 104th Infantry" as a staff sergeant of the heavy machine gun section in France, Belgium and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and was awarded the combat infantry badge, three battle stars, the European Theatre Operations and the coveted "Bronze Star" for merit achievements in combat. He returned to work for Markles' Dairy and the Pleasant Gap Milk Company until October 1958 after which he was employed by O.W. Houts and Son of State College, retiring in 1985.

On August 14, 1941 he married Geraldine M. Lucas in Aurora IL. They celebrated their 73rd anniversary last August.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by one son, Nelson E. Greninger and his wife Ginny of Arvada, CO; seven grandchildren, Terry, Scott, Lesley, Mikel, Cari-Lynn, J.R. (Stacy) Jason (Clare) and two step-grandchildren, Stacy and Jason Johnson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Michael.

Charles was a member of Bellefonte VFW Post 1600, American Legion # 33 of Bellefonte, BPOE #1094 of Bellefonte, FOP # 51 Bald Eagle Lodge, the Centre Hall Lions Club, the Bellefonte Seniors Bowling League, the Tuscarora Hunting Club in Mifflin County , the Bellefonte Seniors, and a member of RSVP of Centre County.

Friends will be received from noon to 1:p. m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will follow immediately at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Andrew Morgan Officiating Interment will follow in Centre County Memorial Park, with military honors.
