Charles A. Smith, 95, of Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Centre Crest Nursing Center.
Born on September 16, 1916 in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Christian John and Edith Mae (Royer) Smith.
On May 19, 1940, he was married to Ruth (Rhoads) Smith, who preceded him in death on April 11, 2007.
Mr. Smith was employed and retired as an Engineer at Cerro Metals Copper and Brass in Bellefonte.
Charles was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bellefonte where he served as an Elder and Choir Director.
Charles was an avid music lover. In his youth, he belonged to many musical groups and besides singing, he also played the double bass and drums. Music was always an important part of his life, which he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol S. Confer (Donald) of Mill Hall and Amy K. Maneval-Barra (Nicholas) of Elmira, NY; four grandchildren, Timothy William Maneval, Jonathan Paul Maneval, Kris Smith, and Destany Irvin; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Kurt E. Smith on April 8, 2010; and eleven siblings.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Services at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College with the Reverend Douglas Elder officiating. Private Inurnment Services will take place at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
