Charles O. Tipton, 67, of Centre Hall, formerly of Tipp City, OH, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at his residence.
He was born August 21, 1940, a son of the late Ralph David and Hazel Finnegan Tipton, and was one of nine siblings.
On May 5, 1921, in Clayton, OH, he married Donna M. Sotzing who preceded him in death on March 14, 2005.
He is survived by a son, Timothy A. Tipton and his wife Mindy of Tipp City, OH; four grandchildren, Galen W. C., Nathan D. A., Benjamin D. and Dillon R. Tipton; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Marie Tipton.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son Gregory A. Tipton.
Charles earned an Associate Degree from Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio. He served in the U. S. Navy in active duty from 1961 -1970 and was in the Naval Reserves from 1970 to 2000.
Mr. Tipton was employed in data processing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, from 1970 until his retirement in 2003.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and working with trees. He also enjoyed hiking, gardening, the out of doors, and traveling. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall, and while living in Ohio, he was a member of Tipp City United Methodist Church and the West Charleston Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church 127 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p. m. at the church with the Reverend Judy Hulslander officiating. Additional visitation, funeral services and burial will take place in Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of his late wife Donna, may be made to a local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
