Clare M. Ort, 92, of Bellefonte, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, literally sliding into "home" plate like a Pittsburgh Pirate might do, to achieve her wish of dying at home.
Clare was born January 31, 1924 in Milesburg to the late Robert H. Ort and Nancy Ginter Ort. Her father died when she was 2 years old, so she never knew him and she was looking forward to meeting him for the first time when she got to Heaven. She was a member of the Milesburg Methodist Church.
She attended the Boggs Township Elementary School, where she went from 3rd to 5th grade, skipping 4th due to an overcrowded classroom situation. She caught up to her older brother, which caused a great deal of aggravation for him! She graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1941.
Clare was the middle child and the last of her generation, preceded in death by her older brother Charles H. Ort and her younger brother Howard D. Ort. She is survived by one daughter Nancy E. Ort, with whom she lived, several nephews Charles H. Ort of PA and Robert M. Ort of S. C., several great nieces and nephews and their children. Friends and family were always extremely important to her. Unfortunately she couldn't get out so didn't get to see much of either as the years went on.
She worked in the office at G.C. Murphy Co., moving on to Meadow Pride Dairy, and retiring in her 70's from the Unico Corp.
Before she became home bound, she enjoyed playing bingo. After that, she limited her time to watching Jeopardy, listening to music, reading, and unplanned napping. In the summer she rooted for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and in the fall it was the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Friends will be received from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Monday, November 7, 2016 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
