Constance (Connie) J. Tiracorda, 88, of State College, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at her home.
She was born November 8, 1920, in Montalbano, Sicily, a daughter of the late James Grasso and Angela Bongiovanni Grasso.
She married Roland G. Tiracorda on October 25, 1945, who survives at home.
A graduate of Johnstown High School, Connie was a devoted wife and mother who also worked as bookkeeper for her husband's construction company.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Madera, PA and served on Christ the King Parish Council. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary and Altar Society. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the John Branic Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Caring deeply about her community, she spent countless hours volunteering for various charities and organizations. She enjoyed working with ceramics, playing the piano and organ, traveling, and several types of needlework, including crocheting, quilting and knitting.
Connie dedicated her life to caring for her family and she considered raising her children to be her most important accomplishment. She is survived by six children, Guy Tiracorda of Philipsburg, Marie Vassey of Mechanicsburg, Angela Kauffman and her husband John of Gainesville, VA, Natalie Tiracorda of State College, Jan McKenna and her husband William of State College, and Jill Tiracorda of Thornton; seven grandchildren, Aaron Tiracorda and his wife Amy, Nicole Vassey-Watson and her husband Tom, Laura Piro and her husband Greg, Daniel Vassey, Joshua Kauffman, and David and Andrew McKenna; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Isaac, and Jacob Tiracorda; three brothers, Nick Grasso and his wife Margaret of Johnstown, and Louis and Joseph Grasso both of Johnstown.
Family and friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, and from 1 - 3 p. m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will follow immediately at 3:00 p. m. Thursday, at the funeral home. A service of committal and entombment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College.
