David E. Binkley, 65, of State College, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
He was born October 3, 1943 in Niagra Falls, NY, a son of the late Wilder Uriah and Ruth Alice (Kelly) Binkley.
On September 15, 1984, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in State College, he married the former Edith M. Wernert, who survives at home. Exactly ten years from their date of marriage on September 15, 1994, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in State College, he and his wife had their marriage blessed in the Catholic Church by Rev. Philip Bender.
David graduated from Lasalle High School in Niagra Falls, NY. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War, on the U.S.S. Midway. During his military service, he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Binkley enjoyed woodworking, sewing, painting, and loved looking at and watching eagles. His passion truly was helping people, serving his church community, and spending time with his family.
He was a class A member of the American Legion in State College, and was a member of the Bellefonte Elks.
He had been employed by Associated Realty Property Management, working in Apartment Maintenance.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Tammy Wissner and husband Eric, with their two children Tyler and Connor of Pittsburgh, Kelley Binkley of State College, Scott D. Binkley and wife Tracy, with their daughter Kayla of State College, and Edward J. Wernert and companion Jessica S. Bucher, with their son DJ of State College; and one brother, Willis "Bill" Binkley and his wife Pat of Florida.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd., State College. A wake service will be conducted at 7:30 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23, 2009, beginning at 10 AM at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Bender officiating. Interment Services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Centre County Memorial Park in State College, where full military honors will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that fuel cards, to be used for patients, be sent to the Mount Nittany Medical Center, c/o the Radiation and Oncology Department, 1800 E. Park Ave., State College, PA 16803 or monetary donations be sent to the Port Matilda EMS, 402 S.
