Obituary

David C. Kradel, 76, born January 16, 1930 in Butler, PA, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 in State College, PA.
He was a son of Joseph and Sara Goodhart Kradel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Mary Sue O'Neill Kradel and by his sister, Esther Ruth Schaub.
He completed his pre-veterinary program at Penn State and graduated with his DVM from Cornell Veterinary College in 1955. He also earned an MS in Animal Nutrition from Penn State and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. He was a diplomat in the American College of Preventive Veterinary Medicine.
During his veterinary career he worked in private practice as a veterinary diagnostician/epidemiologist at Cornell and Penn State, and as a consultant with the Pennsylvania Poultry Industry. He also served as editor of the "Gamebird Bulletin". Two areas in which he had particular interest were the prevention and control of Avian Influenza and the development of a fowl safety program - PEQAP.
He is survived by three brothers, John Kradel of Ligonier, Jim Kradel of Florida, and Dr. Paul Kradel of Fort Smith, AR.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Ann Gale of State College and Pamela Modica of Litiz; a son, Dr. Brian Kradel of Panama City, FL; and seven grandchildren, Charles David Gale, Mary Faith Gale, Catherine Kradel, Ethan Kradel, Ashlea Modica, Christopher Modica, and David Modica.
He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and extended a great deal of charity towards others. He will be greatly missed.
A private memorial service with his family will be scheduled at a later date.
