David R. Mitchell, Jr., 84, of Village Heights, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born August 31, 1926 in Reading, PA he was the son of the late David R. Sr., and Lois (Rishell) Mitchell.
On December 28, 1954 in State College he married Antonia Plivich, who survives at home.
David was a 1944 graduate of State College High School and a graduate of Penn State University in 1950 with a BA degree.
He was a WWII, navy veteran serving as a frogman with the underwater demolition team no#8. He was a retired sales representative for book publishers: Doubleday, Prentice Hall, Lippincott and Harper Collins,
He was a member of the Penn State Alumni Club, the Presidents Club of Penn State, the Elks Club of State College, the Nittany Lion Club, the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the American Legion of State College.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sister, Patricia Sawchuk of State College; two nephews, David (Wanli) Sawchuk of Atlanta, GA and Tim Sawchuk of Clearfield; a niece Lois (Craig) Lyle of Port Matilda; numerous cousins and his best friends in the world, Ronald A. and Barbara L. Bainey of Osceola Mills.
Visitation will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 until time of service at 11:00 AM at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA, with his nephew David Sawchuk officiating. Interment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park with military honors.
