Dean A. Auman, 69, of Spring Mills passed peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his residence.
Born October 23, 1946 in Spring Mills he was the son of the late Wilbur L. and Mildred I. (Smith) Auman.
On May 1, 1971 he married Bonita A. Ross, who survives at home.
Dean was a graduate of Penns Valley High School. He worked for Eungard's Farm Equipment in Spring Mills, until he got drafted. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War in Artillery and was honorably discharged as an E-4 specialist. He then went to work for RP Long Contractors in Centre Hall until he became self-employed, having his own dairy route business. In 1975 he went to work for Penns Valley School District, where he retired in 2006 as the maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the VFW Post 7989 in Potters Mill, the Spring Mills and Gregg Township Fire Companies and the Black Panther Riding and Camping Club in Spring Mills. Dean camped at The Great Grange Fair since 1988 and was active in all of the fairs tractor pulls. He enjoyed hunting, wood working, photography and working in his shop. He especially enjoyed his weekly visits and the hunting season trips to the cabin and camping (he even volunteered at the National Parks in the winter months).
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Julie D. Auman of Webster, TX and Jessica Deneen Auman (Keith Gregory) of Loveland, CO; one brother, Richard E. (Jeanne) Auman of Spring Mills; one sister, Judy (Russell) Witherite of Spring Mills; and his two feline companions, Stubby and Nuisance. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be 6-7 PM, Monday, April 18,2016 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall. A celebration of Dean's Life will follow at 7 PM at the funeral home with the Reverend Carl Hill officiating.
