Donald E. Stover, 87, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Boalsburg, died Monday, December 15, 2008, at the Sarah Todd Home in Carlisle.
He was born April 5, 1921 at Howard, a son of the late Lyman Torrey and Helen Confer.
On October 12, 1946 he married Miriam Fortney who preceded him in death September 5, 1998.
Mr. Stover is survived by a daughter Judith C. Buddenbaum and her husband Laurence of Mechanicsburg; one granddaughter Michelle Spencer and her husband Mark; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Lauren, Noah and Samantha.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Lance Buddenbaum and a sister Sena Petitt
Donald was a graduate of Boalsburg High School and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps with the 380th Bombardment Squad during World War II, earning a Asiatic - Pacific Theater Ribbon with 8 Bronze Stars, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and a Distinguished Unit Citation with an Oak Leaf Cluster He retired from the Penn State University Conference Center as a Technician.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Harris Township Lions Club.
He enjoyed camping, square dancing and attending the Grange Fair.
Friends will be received from 10:30 a. m. to 11:30 a. m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a. m. with the Rev. Brent Book officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
