Donald Newman Strine, Railroader and Avid Penn State Nittany Lions and New York Giants Football Fan, Dies at 61.
Donald Newman Strine, 61, of Julian, beloved husband, father and grandfather died Sunday, June 11 2006, at his residence, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born March 13 1945 in Sunbury, PA, the son of Ednamae T. Strine and the late Ralph N. Strine. He was married to his loving wife Barbara for 25 years.
He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1964 and was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Sunbury. He was also a member of the Sunbury Hook and Ladder Fire Company for many years.
He worked for Pennsylvania Central, Conrail and CSX Corporation, retiring in 2005 with 35 years of service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Ednamae T. Strine, Selinsgrove, brothers Lon of Duluth, Georgia, Jon of Elysburg, and a sister, Roni White, Sunbury, his son Donald E. of Michigan, and step-son, Earl K. Lesniak II, of Ohio, and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends will be received from 10:00 until 11 :00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 W. Lamb St. Bellefonte. The funeral will be 11:00 a. m. at the church with The Venerable Daniel L. Selvage, Priest officiating, assisted by the Reverend Robert R. VanDusen.
