Obituary

Doris Alice Whipple Hester, 89, of State College, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Mt Nittany Medical Center at State College.
She was born September 14, 1921, in Basom, NY; a daughter of the late Irving S. and Grace Mansfield Whipple.
On July 23, 1949, in Mill Grove, NY, she married Howard W. Hester who preceded her in death July 29, 2000.
Doris graduated from Akron High School in Akron, NY; and from Practical Bible Training School in Bible School Park, NY; now known as Davis College.
While concentrating on the task of homemaking, she also worked with the American Sunday School Union in Western, PA; and served with Baptist Mid-Missions in Cleveland, OH for three years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, State College. Very much a people person, she deeply loved children, and served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years.
Among the things Doris enjoyed most were, listening to and playing music, especially old hymns, making greeting cards, flower gardening, observing Hummingbirds, baking and cooking, especially for the holidays. She was a great listener and was always ready to share her time and positive attitude with people who needed her.
Surviving Mrs. Hester are one daughter, Cheryl R. Hester of York; two sons, Curtis A. Hester and his wife Ruth of Hastings, and Paul H. Hester of State College; two grandchildren, Christopher Hester and his wife Sherry, and Kimberly Hester, and three great grandchildren Alex, Sam and Emily Hester all of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by five siblings; Cora, Lorraine, Mary, George and Edward.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA; and from 10:00 to noon Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow immediately at noon, with the Reverend Drew Fenstermacher officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Davis College, 400 Riverside Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790.
