Obituary

Doris M. Lohr, age 50, of Bellefonte, died on Tuesday, March 7, of leukemia. Doris was born on May 10, 1955, in Bellefonte. She was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Marian M. Lohr. Doris is survived by one sister, Ruth Ann Mellott, brother-in-law Neill A. Mellott, nieces Alisha Ann Tyler-Lohr and Rose Mary Mellott, all of Bellefonte; two paternal aunts, Freda Cusick and Mariam Lohr; along with cousins and many friends. Doris was devoted to her nieces, sister, brother-in-law, her friends, and her church family. She was also dedicated to working with children of all ages. Prior to her death, Doris worked for the Child Development and Family Council of Centre County.
Doris graduated from State College Area High School and Penn State University. She also attended Wesley Theological Seminary. She served as a Student Pastor in The Central Pennsylvania Conference of The United Methodist Church. Doris was a member of the Woodycrest United Methodist Church. She loved attending the Centre County Grange Fair and Encampment, where she tented with her family for over 40 years. Doris loved Penn State football, taking her nieces to Penn State sporting events, crafts, and helping her parents with their ceramics.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 11, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Woodycrest United Methodist Church, 129 Clearview Ave., State College, and again Sunday, March 12, at 2 pm with the funeral following at 3 pm at Woodycrest Church with the Rev. Renee Ford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Zion Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodycrest Church, 129 Clearview Ave., State College, PA, 16803, or to the Lohr-Mellott family to help defray expenses, c/o Ruth Ann Mellott, 407 Chestnut, Bellefonte, PA, 16823. Arrangements are under the direction of Mark D. Heintzelman, Centre Hall, PA.
