Dorothy "Dottie" C. Steele, 85, of State College, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at her home.
Born February 1, 1933, in St. Petersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Rozalia (Swiatek) Chechak. On September 9, 1978, in Clarion County, she married Gilbert R. Steele who survives at home.
Dorothy was a devoted Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College and Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Emlenton, PA. She was a part of several organizations which included: Friends for Military Museums, President of the Pennsylvania National Guard Association, and the Bell Tower Pioneers. She was also an avid PSU fan who loved football and Hockey. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great – grandchildren.
Along with her husband Gilbert, she is survived by her children Guy R. Steele (Tammy) of Shippenville, Diana L. Weaver (Ron) of Julian; four brothers, Mike (Louise), Joe, John, and Frank Chechak; five grandchildren, Crystal Wagner ( Josh ) of Shippenville, Guy Steele ( Brianna ) of Clarion, Brock Steele, of NC, Samantha Weaver of Baltimore, Rachel Weaver of Julian; four great grandchildren, Grace Steele, Riley Wagner, Russell Wagner, Mason Weaver and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her sisters Mary and Victoria, and her brothers Adolph, Ted, Stanley, and Andy.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, March 13, 2018, from 10am-11am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA 16801, the Funeral Mass will follow at 11am with The Rev. Fr. Neil Dadey officiating.
Interment will take place Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
