Dorothy M. Keene, 89, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility of State College, PA.
She was born May 27, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of the late Edward and Louise Klaus Moss. Earlier in life, she graduated from Gettysburg College in 1948 with an accounting degree and was employed as an Accountant at Parker & Co.
On June 15, 1956, she married Edward A. Keene who preceded her in death on November 11, 2014. Ed & Dorothy raised a family in Broomall, PA, where she was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church as a choir director and treasurer. Dorothy's passions, besides raising her family, was singing, reading and baking. She sang professional Opera throughout her life as well as with church choirs. She especially loved to read fiction. She always had wonderful baked goodies on the kitchen counter, especially during the holidays.
After retiring to State College, PA in 1989, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a cherished member and officer of the State College Women's Club, and worked in the Thrift store, which she very much enjoyed! Dorothy enjoyed sports and theater, and attended many Penn State events.
Surviving Mrs. Keene is one daughter, Karen L. Mann (Frank) of Cotopaxi, Colorado; two sons Kevin E. Keene of Frazer, PA and Robert W. Keene (Flynn) of Mendota, IL; four grandchildren, Kilian, Hall, Caty, and Krueger; and two brothers in law & sister in law, Warren Keene (Betty Jane) of Greenfield, PA and Milton Keene of North Fort Myers, Florida.
Service will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family will be received from 10-11 a.m. at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral & Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801, with Pastor Scott Schul officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel Mausoleum at Centre County Memorial Park, State College, PA.
