Dorothy Anna "Dot" Wilkinson, 87, of Port Matilda, PA, formerly of Mountainhome, PA and Davenport, FL, passed away on September 2, 2016 at Centre Crest nursing home in Bellefonte, PA after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was born August 11, 1929 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late James and Evelyn (Amy) Beatty. She attended Eastern High School in Baltimore.
On November 24 (Thanksgiving Day), 1949, at the Hampden Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, she married Charles C. "Dusty" Wilkinson who preceded her in death on July 31, 2008. The couple had been married for 58 years. They honeymooned in the Pocono Mountains, then moved there for the next 32 years.
Dorothy was an active member of the Mountainhome United Methodist Church and choir. They followed their sons into Scouting and became dedicated leaders for both Barrett Pack 89 and Troop 89, Pocono District, and Minsi Trails Council. She was honored as one of the first recipients of the BSA Silver Fawn Award. She also volunteered in the Pocono Mountain School District, serving many years of leadership in the Music Parents.
Dot worked her entire life, most notably as business manager for Business Supplies Corporation in Canadensis and the Monroe County Vo-Tech School in Bartonsville. Then in 1982, she and Dusty retired from the Poconos to travel the country, living full-time in their 5th-wheel trailer. Five years later they put down roots again at Mouse Mountain RV Resort in Davenport, FL. Here she started her new "career" - painting wood crafts and teaching line dancing. Late in life she discovered karaoke, making many new and dear friends along the way.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, J. Lance Wilkinson (Vija) of Port Matilda, PA and Joel C. Wilkinson of Milford, PA; one sister, Mary Gross (Ernest) of Mt. Pocono, PA; two grandchildren, Scott C. Wilkinson of Port Matilda, PA, and Julia I. Wilkinson of Peoria, IL; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sara Singleton ("Jack").
A memorial service will be planned at a later date at the Baltimore National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Dorothy's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
