Obituary

Local chef, Doug Kovacik, 49, of State College, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 after a brief illness at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born November 2, 1957 in Charleroi he was a son of the late John Joseph and Genevieve Bender Kovacik, Sr.
A 1976 graduate of Ringgold High School, he attended Penn State where he fell in love with the area and never left, working as a banquet chef at the Sheraton, now the Days Inn. He was executive chef at the Tussey Mountain Ski and Par Three Lodge for twelve years. Most recently, he was a chef at the Whistle Stop Restaurant.
A champion competition dart player and a life long student of architecture, mainly geodesic domes, Doug loved all types of music and his two cats.
He is survived by his brother, John J. Kovacik and wife Dorothy of Greensburg and sister, Karen Solomon and husband Robert of Sausalito, CA.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by sister Geraldine Dunlap.
Friends are welcome at a celebration of his life on Sunday, March 18, 2007 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Whistle Stop restaurant in Centre Hall. No flowers please.
