Earl Stover, 81, of Centre Hall and Millheim, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born September 24, 1926, at Aaronsburg, a son of the late Victor T. and Ottie C. Harter Stover.
On June 29, 1957, he married Yvonne Bright who survives in Centre Hall. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Crystal S. McMullen and her husband John of Lexington, KY; four sons, David E. Stover and is wife Angela of Littleton, CO, Bryan D. Stover, Kenneth W. Stover and Franklin H. Stover and his wife Patricia, all of State College; seven grandchildren, Joseph B. McMullen, Collin D. Stover, Wesley J. Stover, Travis W. and Michelle L. Stover, and Christopher P. and Jessica E. Stover; one great granddaughter, Sylvia S. Stover; one sister, June Haney of Lakewood, CO; and two brothers, Billy D. and Dale Stover both of Aaronsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Donna Mae, and G. Elaine Shawver.
Earl graduated from East Penns Valley High School in 1944. Following his graduation, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps, during World War II, until 1946. He then attended Lock Haven Teachers College (now Lock Haven University) earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Math. He went on to earn his Master of Science degree in Special Education from Bloomsburg State Teachers College (now Bloomsburg University).
Mr. Stover taught Math, History, Driver Education and retired as a Special Education teacher at Penns Valley High School in 1981. After his retirement from teaching, he served as a CATA bus driver for several years.
He was an avid hunter, and expert marksman, and taught Hunter Safety Courses for the Pennsylvania State Game Commission. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling, and playing golf.
Mr. Stover was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Millheim, a lifetime member of NRA, a member of American Legion Post 444 in Millheim, a charter member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Colorado Springs, CO, and a former member of the Millheim and Centre Hall Lions Clubs. He also served on Centre Hall Borough Council for several years.
Friends will be received from Noon until 2:00 p. m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p. m., with the Rev. James K Rill officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
