Obituary

Edmund E. Mayhew, 79, of State College, died on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
He was born on February 9, 1931 in Bennington, VT, he was a son of the late Edmund E. Sr., and Rose A. (Bisson) Mayhew.
He was married to Sally Joan (Langlois) Mayhew on August 15, 1951 who preceded him in death on February 22, 2006.
He was a graduate of Pittsfield (MA) High School in 1949.
Mr. Mayhew honorably served our country in the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Edmund began his working career at General Electric in Pittsfield, MA until 1964. He then was employed at HRB Singer as a buyer in the purchasing department. He worked his way up to the position of Director of Procurement, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Mayhew was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in State College, the American Legion Post 245, and the USA-1 Corvette Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and spending time outdoors, where he especially enjoyed fly fishing and hunting.
He is survived by a son, Gary S. Mayhew and his wife Bonnie of Bellefonte; a daughter, Debra J. Gray and her husband Jack of Stormstown; four grandchildren, Nicole Peterman of Honeybrook, Stephanie Gray of Harrisburg, Amy Hockenberry of Stormstown, Jarrod Mayhew of Bellefonte; five great grandchildren, Lauren and J.T. Peterman, Emerson, Sloane and Paige Hockenberry;
Family will receive friends at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 from 6 - 9 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Gray's Wood Blvd., State College, beginning at 10 AM with the Rev. Charles M. Amershek, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, C/O the Intensive Care Unit in memory of Ed Mayhew, 1800 E. Park Ave., State College, PA 16801
