Edward Carhart Budd, 89, of State College, died October 13, 2009, at his residence.
Born February 20, 1920, in Summit, New Jersey, a son of the late Percy and Mabel (Carhart) Budd.
On February 9, 1943, her married Margaret Ellsworth, who survives at home.
Dr. Budd received his Ph.D from the University of California at Berkley.
He retired from Penn State University on June 30, 1987, as a professor of Economics. He previously served as an assistant professor of Economics at the University of Oregon, and the University of Illinois, he was an assistant professor for nine years at Yale University. He also served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis from 1966 until 1982. His lifetime professional interest was income distribution by size of income.
Ed was a member and officer of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County and a member of the State College Bird Club. Bird watching has been his major hobby for more than 73 years. He was also intrested in photography and did talented photographs of the environment.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Dennis E. of Kansas City, Kansas, Howard S of Batavia, Illinois, Martin E. of Pasadena, California, and Paul A. of Manassas, Virginia; and one granddaughter; Cassidy Budd.
Besides his parents, Mr. Budd was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Brazil and Ruth Colburn.
A Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, 780 Waupelani Drive Extension, State College, with the Reverend Mark Hayes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County.
