Edward "Ned" H. Heverly, 78, of Bellefonte, died June 23, 2004 at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center.
Born April 2, 1926 in Irish Hollow, Axeman, he was the son of the late Ned an d Julia Kane Heverly.
On October 2, 1948, he married Grace E. Ray Heverly, who died May 28, 1993.
Ned was a graduate of the Bellefonte High School class of 1944.
He worked at the Acme Grocery Store in Bellefonte as a meat cutter for nearly 15 years, and since its closing, had worked at Slagel's Market in State College for 20 years, retiring in 1990.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War 11.
He was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. He was a member of the Bellefonte VFW. He was a member of the Bellefonte American Legion and a lifetime social member of the Undine's Fire Company in Bellefonte.
Ned was an avid Penn State Football Fan. He prepared the Penn State Football team's breakfast before each home game while he continued to work at Slagel's Market.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela R. Watkins, of Pleasant Gap,Pa. one step-daughter, Eugenia Schafstall, of Florida; five sons, Steven E. Heverly, of Riverside, Ca; Patrick L. Heverly, of Howard, Pa; Shawn W. Heverly, of Bellefonte, Pa., Michael L. Heverly, of Severn, Md; Daniel H. Heverly,of Snow Shoe, Pa; one sister, Jean Williams, of Lemont, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, College Twp. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and the funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. with Rev. Richard B. Tomkosky officiating. A military service will be provided by the VFW Post #1600 of Bellefonte immediately following the funeral. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, College Twp.
