Eleanor Ruth McMinn, 75, of Pleasant Gap, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Mt Nittany Medical Center, State College, following a long battle with cancer.
She was born September 4, 1932, in Lynn, Mass. a daughter of the late Virginia Lear Sherry.
Eleanor is survived by her companion of fifty four years, Thomas L. McMinn Sr.; her four children, Thomas Jr. and Christopher (AKA Cricket) McMinn both of Pleasant Gap, and John McMinn of Hanover; one daughter, Susan E. Ripka of Bellefonte; and two of her seven siblings Bob Atkinson of Florida, and Virginia Kirkland of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Her family meant the world to her and she loved having them near her. Eleanor was a very outgoing and caring person. She loved socializing and will be sadly missed. She enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, playing slot machines, helping to cook chicken at the Pleasant Gap Carnival every year, and collecting for organizations. She was one of the top five collector/contributors for the March of Dimes each of the last three years of her total of eleven years of involvement. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Pleasant Gap, and a member of the Auxiliary of V. F. W. Post 1600, Bellefonte, since 1969.
In keeping with her wishes, following cremation, private services will be at the convenience of family. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations in her memory in care of Thomas McMinn Sr., 121 S. Main St. Pleasant Gap, PA 16823
