IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth Jane
Andrews
September 10, 1927 – March 13, 2021
Elizabeth Jane Andrews, 93, passed away on the 13 th of March, 2021.
She was born on the 10 th of September, 1927, in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of Maurice and Lillian Franklin Bart, and the sister of William Bart (1923-2009). She attended Collingswood High School in Collingswood, New Jersey, and graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She married Ray E. Andrews (1924-2000) on the 3 rd of September, 1949, and they had two sons, by whom she is survived: Ray Jr. (spouse Wanda) and Charles Franklin Andrews (spouse Thelma Quiogue). She is also survived by four grandchildren – Kimberly (spouse Alex Bowles), Kevin (spouse Amanda), Lauren (spouse Brian Pollack), and Allyson, and two great-grandchildren, Reagan and Ryan.
Known as "Betty" to her friends, "Grammy" or "Gram" (or occasionally "The Gramster") to her grandchildren and all of their friends, and "GiGi" to her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth was a remarkable woman, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a dedicated community and church member, and in the last couple of decades, an enthusiastic world-traveler. She loved Trivial Pursuit (at which she was astonishingly good) and hated picking the meat off the squirrels her husband would sometimes hunt. She had a razor-sharp wit and was not afraid to use it, and her generosity and spirit were second to none. It is difficult, here in the space of an obituary, to adequately express how well-liked Betty was. She had friends spanning three generations, all equally devoted fans, and no one she met failed to be impressed by her mental acuity and physical resilience. She worked for the Centre Volunteers in Medicine into her 90s, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Centre Hall, PA, where she lived for over 60 years. She lived her later life to the absolute fullest: she saw London, Paris, Malta, Crete, Cyprus, the California redwoods, and the Rockies all after the age of 75, and was independent, sharp, and happy until the very end. She will be fiercely missed by all who knew her, but we can take joy, too, in the fact of that full life, and in the fact that she was around long enough to provide all of us with years and years of wonderful memories.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a future date to be determined. In the meantime, donations in lieu of flowers or gifts may be sent to the Northeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: 600 Corporate Circle, Suite 103, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or at https://www.cff.org/lehighvalley/ .
An online guestbook may be signed and condolences sent to the family at www.heintzelmanfuneralhome.com
