Elsie Louise Stine, 72, of Boalsburg, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends during her final days.
Born June 10, 1941 in Julian, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Erdie (Thompson) Woodring. Elsie was a 1959 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. On October 5, 1963 she married Arthur G. Stine at Eisenhower Chapel on the Penn State campus.
Elsie was a customer service representative for Bell Telephone of State College from 1959 until her retirement in 1996. She loved to square dance and was a long-time member of the Centre Squares. She seized every opportunity to travel, and enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, and refinishing furniture.
Always selfless, she was happiest when she was helping others. You could always count on Elsie to lend a helping hand. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Elsie is survived by her husband and three daughters, Cathleen M. Stine of Virginia Beach, VA, Cynthia M. Roelle (Colonel Paul A., USAF) of Washington DC, and Lisa R. Ferrick (Timothy P.) of Erie, PA; two brothers, Calvin Woodring (Betty) of Pleasant Gap, John Woodring (Molly) of San Angelo, TX; three sisters, Edith Richards (David) of Julian, Mary Klinger of Julian, and Donna Stewart (Robert) of Bellefonte; and three grandchildren, Liam and Connor Ferrick, and GiGi Roelle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Ruth Woodring, Homer Woodring, Ethel Dreibelbis, and Esther Woodring.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister Street, State College, with a luncheon to follow. Family and friends will have an opportunity to say a prayer or tell a story about Elsie and to voice their thankfulness for the grace they received during her life.
