Elva M. Griffiths, 86, of rural Mifflinburg, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, from her residence surrounded by family, at 6:02 p. m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2004.
She was born October 31, 1917 in Harmony, PA; a daughter of the late James Cunningham and Carmen Marie Lunda Russell.
On October 26, 1936, she married Charles T. Griffiths who preceded her in death January 16, 1992.
Mrs. Griffiths graduated from William Penn Senior High School in York, PA in 1935, and was a homemaker most of her life.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel of rural Millmont.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and was delighted with their visits. She avidly studied and memorized the scriptures. She enjoyed organic gardening dining out, journaling, and writing detailed memoirs.
She is survived by 6 daughters, E. Elaine Swartz of Millmont, May L. Griffiths-Elsayed of Mifflinburg, Judith L. Frey of Beaver Springs, Benita J. Eckenroth of Mifflinburg, Debra A. Ritter of Selinsgrove, and L. Renee Sholley of Mifflinburg; 2 sons, Thomas W. Griffiths of Mt. Pleasant Mills, and Daniel J. Griffiths of Cambridge Springs, PA; 1 sister, Edith Finkbeiner of Meadville, and 1 brother, Mark Russell of Titusville, PA, 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Zechariah Sholley and Cindy and Jeanne Glancy; 4 sisters, Conchita Ralston, Anita Rogers, Judith Powell and Louise Wallis; and 3 brothers, Howard, Allen and Joseph Russell.
Friends will be received from 7 - 9 p. m. Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, PA. The funeral will be at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the funeral home, with the Pastor Richard D. Purchase officiating. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Middleburg, PA
