Obituary

Elwood F. Fohringer, 84 of Potters Mills, PA died Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Veterans Hospital in Altoona.
He was born Sept. 16, 1918, at Rural Centre Hall, the son of the late Daniel and Belle Fleisher Fohringer.
On June 28, 1947 he married Ruth E. Lovett who survives at home.
Mr. Fohringer was employed at Titan Metals prior to World War II.
During World War II he served in the U. S. Army with the Headquarters 115th Infantry, AFO #29 from May 13, 1941 to May 19, 1945, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He participated in the Battle of Normandy, France and was wounded in action near Chippelle, Normandy, France; June 13, 1944. He earned an Europena African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with one Bronze Star, an American Defense Ribbon, a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Purple Heart and a Presidential Citation.
He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church at Colyer.
Early in life he enjoyed hunting, he was an avid gardener, and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by two daughters: Rebecca L. Slenker of Centre Hall, and Susan R. Baker of Baltimore, MD. Also two sons: Timothy E. Fohringer of Millheim, and Jeffrey L. Fohringer of Potters Mills, and one Sister: Ruby Jordan of York, PA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Amy Slenker-Smith, and Derek and Cara Long; 2 step grandchildren: Katherine and Christopher Baker; and one great grandson Andrew Derek Long. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Friends will be received at the Elosie B. Kyper Funeral Home, Inc. 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA, from 9:30 to 11 a. m. Wed. Apr. 30, 2003. The funeral will be at 11:00 a. m. at the funeral home, with the Rev F. Jeffrey Mugridge, and the Rev. William E. Kuhn officiating.
