Obituary

Emodean M. Kersteter, 88 of Pleasant Gap, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born September 14, 1921, in Pleasant Gap, she was a daughter of the late Guy B. and Ida (Zettle) Kersteter.
Emodean joined the Army WACS August 3, 1944 serving tours in Germany, Japan, Panama and the underground Pentagon at Fort Meade, MD, where she was in charge of the teletype division. She retired from the Army in August 1964 after 20 years of service.
She was a member of American Legion Post 867 for over 50 years.
In the 1950's she played softball in the Far East, Japan and Germany WAC leagues and was renowned for her pitching skills.
Upon retiring from the service, she returned to Pleasant Gap and worked for the PA Fish Commission until her retirement.
She enjoyed spending time at her camp in Poe Valley and was an avid Pirates and Penn State fan.
She is survived by a brother Guy B. Kersteter (Patricia) of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Norma Bird, Genevieve Larimer and most recently Lucille Brown.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College.
The funeral will follow at 2p.m., at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Osif officiating.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
