Eugene R. "Pete" Tate, 85, of Belleville, formerly of rural Centre Hall, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.
He was born August 11, 1927 at Spring Mills the son of the late Richard Irvin and Ethel Harriet (Gentzel) Tate.
On April 16, 1949, he married the former Minerva Ellen Neff, who resides at Valley View Haven in Belleville.
He took a flying course to obtain a commercial license and flight instructor rating. He enjoyed giving airplane rides at the Grange Fair for years.
Pete worked at Cerro Metals from 1946-1990, where he was also a truck driver and laborer.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Union UCC Church in Tusseyville , a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and a WWII Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Deborah Sue Frazier (Larry) of Centre Hall; three sisters, Joan Shawver (Robert), Jean Gilmore (Tom) both of Centre Hall and Connie Saluter (Phil) of Florida; two grandchildren Brad (Stephanie) Frazier of Stephens City, VA and Meghan Frazier of Harrisburg; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Rachel Frazier.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Inez M. Pecht and Irene E. Garbrick.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall and Thursday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Emmanuel Union Cemetery, Tusseyville.
