Obituary

Evelyn E. Smitley of Doylestown, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home. She was 85.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Smitley in 1987.
Born in Mt. Braddock, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (nee Czerniak) Jellick.
Evelyn and her husband Charles were inseparable until his death in 1987. In addition to raising their family, they conquered many projects together over the years, including building several homes and performing in home t.v. repairs as a part time job. She was a talented gardener and was especially proud of her ferns and African violets. A gifted cook, Evelyn was known for the tastiest stuffed cabbages and cole slaw in the world. She was also known for her crocheting, and made enough afghans to carpet the entire state of Pennsylvania. Evelyn lived in State College from 1944 until 2002 when she moved to the Doylestown area to be close to her daughter.
Although Evelyn was talented at many things, her priorities in life were always her husband, her family and her home. One of her grandchildren recently stated, ..Every memory of I have of Grams is a good memory.?
She is survived by her children; Raymond L. Smitley of Renton, WA and Mary Elwell of Buckingham, PA, her grandchildren; David L. Smitley of Annapolis, MD, Paul J. Barry of Earlville, IL, Steven L. Smitley of Johnstown, PA and Jeffrey L. Smitley of Roscoe, IL, and her great-grandchildren; Rachel E., Alexander C., Andrew P. and Kaitlyn J. Smitley and Jessica L. Barry. She is also survived by her sisters; Therese Meyer of Omaha, NE and Margie Roebuck of Marlboro, NJ.
