On January 14th, 53-year-old College Township resident Farquhar David MacRae died in his home after a long illness. Born in Centre County on August 4, 1957, he graduated from State College Area High School in 1975. For 18 years, he was a State College Area school bus driver. He resigned in 2002 to work as a long-distance truck driver for Schneider National, Inc. He left in 2006 to work for Handy Delivery, Inc., in State College first, as a taxi driver and later a dispatcher until shortly before his death.
Mr. MacRae never married and is survived by his sister Scotia MacRae of Princeton, NJ, and his brother Desmond of New York City.
He was a quiet man who was fond of cats. Those who were his friends, and those who treated him for ill health that troubled him all of his adult life, found him to be a remarkable person who was acutely intelligent, and well-informed. There will be no memorial service, but friends and relatives may pay their respects with donations to PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA 16801, for the care of abandoned cats.
