Flo M. Muthersbaugh, 98, of Sprucetown, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, Valley View Haven Retirement Community at Belleville.
She was born on April 12, 1909, in Lumber City, Reedsville, Mifflin County; a daughter of the late John H. and Sallie Sweitzer King.
On April 19, 1926, she married C. A. Burns Muthersbaugh who preceded her in death on December 28, 1955.
Flo attended Milroy schools. Early in life she worked at the Viscose Factory at Lewistown. For many years she was a homemaker, then in 1950 her children's school teacher, Gwendolyn Wagner, started a hot lunch program for students. After assisting in the program, she became a school cafeteria cook, serving in that position until 1959. She then went to work for Gettig Manufacturing in Spring Mills, retiring after twelve years of service.
Mrs. Muthersbaugh was a member of Sprucetown United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed spending time and playing games with her grandchildren, fishing and traveling. On her first flight, after a long airport delay, she was awarded a certificate and wings for that flight. An avid baker she was known for her sugar and chocolate chip cookies and bread baking.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Smeltzer of Centre Hall; five sons, Willard and his wife Bonnie of rural Spring Mills, Harry and his wife Roxanna, of Rochester, NY, Donald and his wife Nancy of Harrisburg, Eugene and his wife Elaine of Centre Hall, and Carl and his wife Judy of Savannah, GA; sixteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren; and a son in law Evan Homan of Rebersburg.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son William, a daughter Sarah Homan, two grandchildren, Deborah Homan and Polly Jo Bair, five sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Sprucetown United Methodist Church, Upper Georges Valley Road, near Potters Mills, with the Rev. Jeffrey Mugridge officiating. Burial will be in the adjacent Sprucetown United Methodist Church Cemetery. Immediately following the funeral and committal service at the graveside, friends will be received in the fellowship hall of the church.
