Floyd J. Stiver, 93, of rural Spring Mills, formerly of State College, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
He was born November 15, 1915, at Martha Furnace, a son of the late Grant and Cecilia Biddle Stiver.
He was married to the former Ruth Gordon who preceded him in death in April 1957. On September 25, 1965, he married Alice Breon Johnson who preceded him in death on November 2, 1991.
Floyd was employed as a construction worker and brick mason for H. I. Houtz and later for Roy Spicer.
Among the things he enjoyed most were fishing, attending Grange Fair, repairing clocks, and spending time with his family and cat Sissy.
Mr. Stiver was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Bellefonte and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in State College for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Jean Fleck of rural Spring Mills, and Patricia Ann Lose and her husband Larry James of Milesburg; three grandchildren, Tricia Jean Strong of Harrisburg, Stacy Sue McCurdy and her husband Troy of Howard, and Larry James Lose Jr. and his wife Stacy Lee of Julian; and seven great grandchildren. He was the last of his generation, having been preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a. m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Douglas Mellott officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Zion, PA, at the convenience of the family.
